Irving Z. Basañez, M.D. is an otolaryngology-head and neck surgeon who provides expert care for patients with otolaryngologic (ENT) complaints and illnesses. He received his B.S. degree in mathematics from Walla Walla University in College Place, WA. He went on to receive his M.D. from The University of Texas Medical School at Houston in Houston, TX. He completed both his surgical internship and otolaryngology residency training at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. He served as Section Chief of ENT at Tennessee Valley Healthcare System for almost 5 years before joining Central Oregon Ear Nose & Throat.
His practice spans general otolaryngology but specific interests include hearing loss and cochlear implantation, in addition to medical and surgical management of chronic infections of the ears and sinuses. He has spent time abroad at the World Health Organization in the division for prevention of blindness and deafness working on projects related to hearing loss. He has also spent time in the field doing research in pediatric hearing loss in Uganda.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Basañez enjoys skiing, hiking, triathlons, traveling, and spending time with family. He is bilingual in Spanish and English.
